Spencer, aka Krudspen, is a British multidisciplinary artist from Hemel Hempstead whose creative voice spans graffiti, abstract painting, and music. Whether transforming public walls with striking visuals or pouring his soul into rap as Speno, Spencer’s work is driven by instinct, honesty, and emotional truth.
Defined by his cheeky charm and raw vulnerability, Spencer has a gift for taking any medium and making it unmistakably his.
“I don’t overthink it. I feel my way through it—whether I’m painting or writing. That’s where the real magic is.”
In 2010, while navigating a personal low, Spencer discovered a recurring block pattern that became his signature. Influenced by years in the graffiti scene and private experiments on canvas, he began using abstract shapes to express emotion.
“They’re not just shapes—they’re states of mind. Bold, bright ones mean confidence or joy. Smaller, stretched ones? That’s grief, confusion, or heartbreak. I paint what I feel.”
He builds every piece from the bottom up, mirroring the process of rising from hard times.
“I’ve been at rock bottom. That’s why I start there. It’s the only place you can build from. Each stroke is a step forward.”
Spencer’s "love heart" pieces are public declarations of emotion—painted in times of heartbreak and freely shared.
“When my heart’s broken, I paint hearts. It’s me putting love into the world, hoping some comes back. When people smile, stop, or take a photo—that’s when I know it’s working. Love always wins.”
In the studio, his identity splits into two sides: Krud—gritty, raw, and unapologetic, and Spen—refined, reflective, and full of spirit. Together, they create a balance.
“Krud is the mess, the realness. Spen is the part of me trying to stay clean, stay true. My canvas shows them both.”
His music is an extension of the same emotional language. Under Speno, Spencer’s tracks alternate between deep vulnerability and feel-good energy.
“I write with no ego—just truth. If it’s not deep and raw, then it’s upbeat and joyful. My favourite artist is DMX. I want people to laugh, cry, feel something. That’s life.”
Whether on a crumbling city wall or a stretched canvas, Spencer’s work speaks with immediacy and depth. It connects. It lingers. And above all, it’s real.
